A 30-year expert in environmental and civil engineering, Dr. Dennis D. Truax, P.E., BCEE, is actually a noted authority in his field. Now thriving in his fourth year as the James T. White Chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering, he is responsible for each administrative and education tasks, managing over $500,000 in externally-funded research, undergraduate and graduate student advising, and limited environmental consulting. In this latter aspect, Dr. Truax has developed far more than 500 water and wastewater management processes for use worldwide all through his career.
In an exclusive interview with Cambridge Publishing, Dr. Truax noted that his adore for engineering is what initially prompted him to turn out to be involved in greater education. In 1976, he earned a bachelor of science in civil engineering having a concentration in environmental and hydraulic engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He later went on to earn a master of science in civil engineering along with a doctor of philosophy in civil engineering from Mississippi State University. An active member of his professional community, Dr. Truax is an American Academy of Environmental Engineers’ Board Certified Environmental Engineer. He also maintains active affiliation using the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying, and also the American Society of Civil Engineers, among others. He has served on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Advisory Council for the Center for Specialist Engineering Education Services along with the Mississippi Board of Licensure for Skilled Engineers and Surveyors. Dr. Truax is actually a licensed professional engineer within the state of Mississippi as well as a licensed private pilot.
